U.S. Navy Body Fat Method
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy circumference method, which estimates body fat from height, neck, waist (and hip for women) measurements. It's more practical than skinfold calipers and reasonably accurate (±3–4%).
Men: %BF = 86.01×log10(waist−neck) − 70.041×log10(height) + 36.76
Women: %BF = 163.205×log10(waist+hip−neck) − 97.684×log10(height) − 78.387
Women: %BF = 163.205×log10(waist+hip−neck) − 97.684×log10(height) − 78.387
How to Measure Correctly
- Neck: Measure just below the Adam's apple.
- Waist: Measure at the navel (belly button), not the narrowest point.
- Hip (women): Measure at the widest point of the hips/buttocks.
