What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure calculated using your height and weight to categorize your weight status. While not a perfect measure of health, it's a useful screening tool used by healthcare professionals worldwide.

BMI Formula

BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)²

Imperial: BMI = 703 × weight(lbs) / height(in)²

BMI Categories (Adults 20+)

  • Below 18.5 — Underweight
  • 18.5 – 24.9 — Normal (Healthy Weight)
  • 25.0 – 29.9 — Overweight
  • 30.0+ — Obese

Limitations: BMI doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, age, or fat distribution. Athletes may have a high BMI due to muscle, not fat. Consult a healthcare provider for a full assessment.
